Dave Grohl drawn using Foo Fighters lyrics
Scare myself to death
That’s why I keep on running
Before I’ve arrived
I can see myself coming

Who: Focus In Frame
Song: Count Every Breath
Box-shattering, genre-transcending rock
The sad reality is that the musical scene today is so filled with copycat-ish garbage that it is difficult to determine the fool’s gold from the actual godldust. Enter Focus In Frame, a truly transcendant San Diego band just beginning to brand the musical landscape with their own blend of post-hardcore, pop, and rocking electricity that doesn’t give in to the classic mishaps of sounding like everyone else. What makes this band one that will immdiately grab your listening ear is that they seem to fit right in that obtuse peghole that bands like Dance Gavin Dance, A Lot Like Birds, Pierce The Veil, and Sleeping With Sirens have carved a niche within.
Their sound is bright, hopeful, clean and smooth like the best moment of Emarosa you ever heard. What makes them this good is the sound at the forefront of tasty hooks: Lead singer Freddy Padilla and guitarist/screamer AJ Marin. Padiila’s sound is alot like a blend between Jonny Craig and Vic Fuentes - and before you scoff at such high praise listen to the way he bites the head off of the end of each bar and tell me you don’t get the same vibe. His laid back style of vocalization fuses tremendously the harsh vocals that bounce in and out of the song. Then there’s AJ and if you think he kinda looks like “Andrew” here on TMB that’s no cooincidence, they are one in the same, our lead writer and one of this band’s masterminds. He is a fantastic guitarist, Will Swan-like in many ways, and his screams compliment nicely because he’s not just a howler, the man can legitimately sing.
Take some time to listen to this promising new band. They are just starting out so get on the floor level of their rise. They are dedicated to honing their craft and aren’t planning on going away anytime soon. Focus in Frame is only getting started but it won’t be long before they’re taking over your ipod and stereos alike. -Randall

So, normally I don’t really write reviews, I only do if the band strikes me as important. This band, Focus In Frame, has a really unique sound. They sound like.. maybe a bit of DGD with something else? I’m trying to think of a band they actually sound like, but I can’t because I suck with names. but maybe it’s just that they don’t really sound like anyone I know though, and that’s a good thing. What I AM good at though, is knowing good music when I hear it. I have plenty of friends that start up shitty little bands and they think they’ll go far, but I really knew they would only last a couple of gigs. They lacked passion and perseverance. I truly believe FIF will make it big. In fact, the facebook page was officially launched hardly 48 hours ago and already has over 150 likes. Clearly they are doing something right. I’ve had their song Count Every Breath on repeat since last night. I’m not even sure how to describe it. The screaming, the melody… it all just fits together in a blend of awesome-ness that you don’t really hear in modern bands anymore. The lyrics also have actual meaning, unlike “you a stupid hoe”. These things combined can only mean one thing- a genuinely awesome new band for you to fall in love with.
If you like the song, check out their Facebook page and give them a like!

So I would just like to take a moment to discuss the awesomeness that is A Shattered Hope— A local hardcore band based out of San Diego. I’ve been a huge fan since day one. I believe they were opening for Scary Kids Scaring Kids (their last show ever!) 2 years ago when I first saw them. They had great music and a great stage presence so I bought their CD upon leaving and put it on when I got in the car. The band consists of: Tyler - Vocals, Marc- Guitar, Nic- Bass, and Nate- Vocals/drums. I would just like to add that singing while playing drums isn’t easy and I think it’s fucking awesome.
It’s pretty rare that I miss any of their local shows, and I’m going to explain why. I went to one of them last night and, despite a few technical difficulties, it was amazing. From the music, to Tyler and Nic fighting it out on stage with the pushing and kicking haha. Tyler isn’t afraid to call you out, either. There were people in the back, not facing the stage and talking to each other so he yelled to them “HEY! YOU! TURN THE FUCK AROUND AND STOP TALKING! YOU’RE AT A FUCKING ROCK SHOW, YOU DON’T COME HERE TO TALK…” etc. It was seriously one of the coolest things ever. Now, here’s what I don’t understand. Tyler said “I want everyone to repeat after me: FUCK FUCK FUCK!” some people yelled it, so he tried again, louder. “FUCK FUCK FUCK!” then less yelled it, and less the third time. Who the FUCK doesn’t want to yell FUCK at the top of their lungs? A Shattered Hope has over 14,000 likes on their facebook so why the hell aren’t there at least 50 people for them at their shows? Seriously, they should be done being the band that opens for other bands. They need longer sets and to be headlining their own shows. They’re definitely good enough. They recently released an EP called “See You At The Grammy’s” which you should buy. Right now.
Also, here’s the music video for their song A Man’s Loss

The theme song to my life
“Every day can’t be the best day
Do what you can right now, don’t hesitate
That’s why we try to make love and get paid
Take the bad with the good, now let’s play”
